If you have been a keen follower of the game, you will notice how this game has suffered ,not just because there is mismanagement in IHF,but also because the market forces in the country and the iconic obsession of the people with cricket, have drven it to the brink. Why only hockey, take any sports in the country other than cricket and the fate is the same. The economic forces drive the business of sports as well.Do you think this could have been possible if it was valued as highly as the cricket by the people of the country, particularly the youth?
I wonder at times as to why we are so enamoured of cricket as if the national pride depends on it?If we lose in a match, the cricketers get battered allover, and not even the family memberes are spared. But if we win a match against the mighty Australians, because the Pakistanis no longer are our arch rivals(we have really moved on much beyond),the nation is united over its craziness in showering all the blessings, including money much beyond the imagination. We have come a long a way in this game ,and the game really some how identifies with the aspirations and ambitions of the new young Indian. The sky is the limit for the new young Indian, and there is no challenge which the they can think of attaining. They are the world champions.India is on the move, the world should stand up and take notice.
The likes of Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar,Mahesh Dhoni do not get overawed by the whites, the Australians,or for that matter the Americans. They are happy the way they are.Bhajjis of India would pay pack as good as they get without an iota of shame or guilt. These guys are there for the kill, and nothing can deter them from going all out for the killing. They got to win, and win they will. What an ATTITUDE!!!.
It is only cricket that can produce what they are dreaming to be the reality.Only cricketers with their new attitude and fearlessness, can show them the way. They are the new icons.
What the cricket has achieved, the other sports failed to do?Mr.Gill as a true leader should have surrrenderd to the cause of the game,Hockey. He the egoist that he is, wanted his own name flying high as a saviour of the game. But you may have succeeeded as a cop,but it does not necessarily mean you will succeeed too as IHF President.
Chak de India has to be repeated if we want the game to catch our imagination and of the nation.Only success can succeed.
