Priyanka Gandhi was on the front page news, with half a page coverage in the Times Of India today.The reason for this was the news that she recently met the last living assassin of her father in jail.Nalini, the assassin, is a very educated woman and started crying when she saw Priyanka cry.The paper also covered extensively the details of the conversations that took place between the two in the jail.The details of Nalini's family and life are also given evoking some sympathy for her as well.
The political statements apart, this was more a personal coming to terms with a tragedy and should be viewed as such.It has taken her 17 long years to visit her and try to understand why she snatched a father from her daughter so brutally.Perhaps she could hardly understand anything more than what she already knew.But the resentment and violence she may have harboured unkowingly towards her, needed to be addressed to know that she had moved on and life can stop for anyone.It is God's will and has to be done.
She perhaps wanted to know why God was so unfair with her.Or was he?Rajiv Gandhi was a thorough gentlemen.He never hharmed anybody ever.Why should he meet such a fate?
The ways of God are inscrutable and simply have to be accepted as they are, because God wills them so.We like Prinyanka for the maturity exhibited by her and salute her for the large hearted show of forgiveness.Nalini was simply an instrument in the larger design of the Almighty.
