The Law Commission has recommended changes in the motor vehicle Act.It is very much required as road rage and drunken driving have become the order of the day.
Our traffic is notorious all over the world for its indiscipline.We break rules for no reason.We care two hoots for the people killed in road accidents.The thrill one gets from speed is too much to ignore ,so what if a few lives are lost on the road,few families lose their near and dear ones.
The law is hardly stringent enough to instill a sense of fear in the minds of the people.The road accidents are booked under 279/337 IPC, and if someone dies it is booked under 304A IPC.All these are bailablre offences and people come out on bail whenever they are arrested.
Hence the laws need to be made stringent.They ought to be non-bailable offences with imprisonment upto 10 years in case of death.
Let us all raise our voice as citizens of India to bring in some discipline on the roads.
